Phenotype: pharyngeal arch 2 neural crest cell shape, abnormal
Note: This statement combines anatomy and/or ontology terms with phenotype quality terms to create a complete phenotype (EQ) statement. For detailed information on individual terms, click the hyperlinked term name.
Name: pharyngeal arch 2
Synonyms: hyoid arch, visceral arch 2
Definition: The second pharyngeal arch, also known as the hyoid arch, forms jaw support structures. Anteriorly positioned cranial neural crest cells, which align with rhombomeres 4/5, contribute to the hyoid arch structures including the ceratohyal and hyosymplectic cartilages.
Ontology: Anatomy Ontology [ZFA:0001611]
Name: neural crest cell
Synonyms: neural crest cells
Definition: A cell of the neural crest. The neural crest is a strip of specialized ectoderm, the neural plate border, which flanks each side of the embryonic neural plate. Neural crest cells are multipotent. Premigratory neural crest cells are found at the neural plate boarder, some of which will undergo ectomesenchymal transition and delamination to form migratory neural crest cells. Most of the cranial and all of the spinal sensory ganglion cells arise by differentiation of neural crest cells.
Ontology: Anatomy Ontology [ZFA:0009165]
Name: shape
Synonyms: relational shape quality
Definition: A morphological quality inhering in a bearer by virtue of the bearer's ratios of distances between its features (points, edges, surfaces and also holes etc).
Ontology: Phenotypic Quality Ontology [PATO:0000052]
