Definition: Extraocular muscle that inserts at the scleral-corneal junction on the ventral side of the eye. The insertion point of the ventral oblique and the ventral rectus overlap in adult fish. All the oblique extraocular muscles originate together from the anterior ethmoid plate. The ventral oblique is innervated by the oculomotor nerve.
